![]() I’m really curious what it would be like to experience this book with zero familiarity with JD's body of work, TMG or otherwise. This is a long book so my review a year from now would be very different: this is a first glance sort of review, and by review I mean "my random takeaways." I've always situated the Mountain Goats among two of my other favorite artists, Wolf Eyes and Arthur Russell, musicians with massive outputs that feel like sketches that build iteratively, they are working on just a few ideas and letting you see everything they do along the way. I could never get into Universal Harvester in the same way although I've tried - DH and WIWV feel much more connected, like WIWV was a rough draft for DH and Master of Reailty was a rough draft for WIWV. Getting to hear all of the voices and cadences JD assigns to various passages is my favorite way to experience any of his books, particularly Wolf In White Van. My physical book is coming from Strand but it could only be mailed to a US address so I have to wait until I’m back to my hometown - I know JD made some font choices and the subheads are important, experiencing those visually will be a different experience. ![]() Has anyone else made it all the way through? ![]()
